In order to be an effective leader, you’ve got to get comfortable with being uncomfortable. Better yet, you have to get comfortable with being in the presence with others who are uncomfortable.
I meet with a wonderful group of leaders within the community and this morning, during one of our breakfast meetings, the natural flow of our conversation led us to the sentiment above. It really struck me.
Change is challenging for a reason. The majority of people tend to stick to what they know. That’s comfortable. So working with people to navigate through change is going to elicit some discomfort. It can make a huge difference in your success rate going in to a situation just by being aware that if the change is worth it, you’re going to have to understand that not everyone is going to be comfortable.
