Children are remarkable. They don’t form judgments based on race or nationality, religion, or socioeconomic status. As they grow and have more interaction with the world and their peers, it’s important for them to have a place to go that nurtures that innate empathy and open-minded thinking.

One of those havens is the Harrisonburg Rockingham Child Day Care Center  “which serves the community by providing care to children regardless of the family’s financial resources, race, orreligious affiliation.”  The HRCDCC provides safe care and learning for children ages two to eight. Funded by the United Way, the day care provides enrollment for children of all families, regardless of their income, by offering a sliding fee scale.

Four years ago, the community of Harrisonburg, Virginia came together to support a fundraising event for the HRCDCC. The event, Dancing with the Stars of the ‘Burg has highlighted the amazing spirit of giving that exists in the community. Each year, seven local “stars” are paired with dance partner from the local chapter of USA Dance. The teams work tirelessly for fourteen weeks, practicing their routine and fundraising.

This year’s “finale” event will be held on November 10th and not only will the winning couple take home the coveted Mirror Ball Trophy, but we expect that the community will have once again, showed up with true spirit of compassion. Donations to the HRCDCC through this event have been the highest ever relative to this point in the fundraising timeline each year.

Organizations such as the HRCDCC  help shape and inspire the inevitable leaders we will all someday look to. Click here to learn more about DWTS of the Burg and of course, donate, if you can! Every penny counts.

And take a look at some fancy dancing, as Tracey Jones of WHSV shows off her moves with partner, Matt Eddy during a mini-fundraising event leading up to the big one. Go here to see more video from the October 18th event on TV3Social’s YouTube page.
